Stanley issued a recall of 2.6 million of the popular drinkware company's Switchback and Trigger Action stainless steel travel mugs due to a defect causing burn injuries, according to the The reason for the recall is due to the mug's lid threads shrinking "when exposed to heat and torque," which causes "the lid to detach during use, posing a burn hazard," the CPSC said on Thursday. To remedy the situation, the CPSC is suggesting consumers "immediately stop using the recalled travel mugs and contact Stanley to receive a free replacement lid, including shipping." The affected mugs have been sold in the U.S. and in a variety of colors and sizes, including 12 ounces, 16 ounces and 20 ounces, according to the CPSC. The mug's lid is made out of polypropylene, a common thermoplastic that is chemical resistant, heat resistant, flame resistant and gas and water permeability resistant, German manufacturer Xometry said.
