To keep up with a forecasted growth in electricity demand, Xcel Energy is seeking proposals for more than 3 gigawatts of accredited power generating capacity by the end of the decade. Southwestern Public Service, a subsidiary of Xcel Energy, issued a request for proposals on Monday. The company is looking for new or extended power purchase agreements, self-build projects and transferring projects, according to a Monday news release. SPS specifies its additional capacity needs for 2027, 2028, 2029 and 2030 in the RFP. It ranges from 543 more megawatts in 2027 to 3,190 more megawatts by 2030. "We are investing in real solutions for energy resources that support a robust economy well into the future without compromising grid reliability or customer affordability," Xcel Energy Texas-New Mexico President Adrian Rodriguez said in a statement.
