Although this may sound extreme, such a decline has occurred before and could happen again. That said, the stock has already gained more than 30% year to date — including a recent 25% surge over the past month following Trump's tariff announcements. However, considering historical performance during economic downturns, a drop to under $5 from its current price near $45 may not be out of the question. Interestingly, the stock's recent rally contradicts its financial performance. The company posted a net loss of $89 million, or $0.39 per diluted share, for Q4 2024. On an adjusted basis, the net loss stood at $28 million, or $0.13 per diluted share.The surge is mainly attributed to President Donald Trump's April 7, 2025 directive instructing the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States to revisit Nippon Steel's proposed $15 billion acquisition of U.S. Steel.
