The flagship of agricultural conglomerate Charoen Pokphand Group, which is controlled by the family of Thai billionaire Dhanin Chearavanont , agreed to buy a 65% stake in U.K.-based food processor and trader Newburgh Foods for £13.43 million ($17.4 million) to expand its footprint in Europe. Charoen Pokphand Foods already has manufacturing sites in 17 countries worldwide: nine in Asia, five in Europe, two in North America and one in South America. It distributes products in more than 50 countries across five continents. The acquisition will be done by Charoen Pokphand's subsidiary Westbridge Foods, which also has an option to buy the remaining 35% shares in Newburgh after three years. Newburgh manufactures fresh marinated chicken products, frozen and chilled chicken and repackaged processed frozen chicken.
