The downbeat coverage comes after the Federal Reserve's 2024 stress test showed that all 31 participating banks remained above their minimum common equity tier 1 (CET1) capital requirements during a hypothetical recession. U.S. Bancorp's ( USB ) results from the stress test showed the second-highest loss rate in analyst Vivek Juneja's universe in credit cards, at 17.5%. Do note that Jefferies' Ken Usdin said USB is unlikely to offer much of a share buyback story to investors. On top of that, USB "continues to see moderate payments-related fee growth, lagging peers, and these revenues will be impacted further by softer spending trends," Juneja wrote in a note. Juneja's Neutral rate aligns with the SA Quant system rating of Hold and diverges from the average sell-side analyst rating of Buy. USB edged down 0.7% in Thursday morning trading.
