Co-developed by Toyota, the Subaru EV had ho-hum looks, average acceleration, just acceptable range and unsatisfactory charging infrastructure. Compared to the Tesla Model Y, which Cox Automotive says sold over 372,000 units in 2024, the Subaru Solterra sold a meagre 8,063 units last year. It's massive recall in mid-2022 due to potential wheel detachment, did not help sales of the Subaru either. The all-new revised Solterra, however, just launched at the New York International Auto Show, corrects all of those flaws. The new Solterra looks better, and gets a lot more power Firstly, it looks a lot better thanks to its cleaner lines and more stylized, more luxurious front end. Unlike its Toyota bZ4X counterpart, which offers a single-motor, front-wheel-drive version, the Solterra is only available with dual motors and all-wheel drive.
