Zero emissions for heavy-duty transportation are achievable, as demonstrated by Cummins sending one of its hydrogen-fueled trucks on a journey of 1,806 miles before needing a refill. A truck making the same loop around Oakland, Calif., and using an internal combustion engine would have released 664 pounds of CO2. Production tax credits and the establishment of new regional hydrogen hubs are enhancing the viability of hydrogen in the United States. Hydrogen shows significant potential in industries that are challenging to decarbonize or in regions where quick electrification is not feasible—relevant to planes ships , and long-haul trucks.
