Asia stocks mixed as investors watch for stimulus measures [CNBC]

Shares in Asia were mixed in Tuesday afternoon trade after stocks on Wall Street saw their worst day since the 2008 financial crisis overnight. In Japan, the Nikkei 225 slipped 0.38% in afternoon trade, adding to its 5.07% decline on Monday. The Topix index made a turnaround as it rose 0.27%. The two indexes had declined more than 3% each earlier in the session. The Hang Seng index in Hong Kong jumped 1.81% by the afternoon as shares of Chinese tech juggernauts Tencent and Alibaba rose more than 2% each. Mainland Chinese stocks were also higher, with the Shanghai composite up 0.62% while the Shenzhen composite slid 0.526%. The Shenzhen component rose 0.88%. Meanwhile, Australia's S&P/ASX 200 recovered from its earlier slip to rise 0.94%. Earlier in the session, the benchmark had fallen into bear territory — defined as more than 20% off its 52-week highs. South Korea's Kospi traded 0.18% lower.
