"El presidente Trump calificó estos aranceles de 'permanentes' y se aplicarán no solo a los coches totalmente ensamblados, sino también a las principales piezas automovilísticas, sobre todo los motores y los componentes eléctricos", comentó Jim Reid, economista de Deutsche Bank. Hacia las 08H30 GMT, en la Bolsa de Fráncfort, en la que cotizan muchas empresas del sector, Porsche perdía 4,30%; Mercedes, 4,31%; BMW, 4,09%; Daimler, 3,18% y Continental, 2,71%. En París, Stellantis caía 6,12%; Valeo, 5,65% y Forvia, 5,42%. "El presidente Trump dijo que había aranceles aduaneros recíprocos previstos el 2 de abril, aunque después de añadió que serían 'muy indulgentes', y también mencionó aranceles futuros a productos farmacéuticos y a la madera de construcción", subrayó el economista. Asimismo, Donald Trump amenazó el jueves a la Unión Europea y a Canadá con aranceles adicionales si actúan en detrimento de Estados Unidos para responder a la guerra comercial lanzada por Washington.
