Oct. 16—ANDERSON — The Needler's grocery stores have been sold to a Michigan company with a long business relationship with the family-owned chain. SpartanNash of Grand Rapids announced Monday that it has acquired 49 stores operated by the Needler family in Indiana, Ohio and Kentucky. Needler's currently has stores in Pendleton and Elwood; plans to open a store in Anderson are expected to continue moving forward. It was announced Tuesday at the Anderson Redevelopment Commission meeting that the Anderson store should open Oct. 1, 2025. Anderson Mayor Thomas Broderick Jr. said Wednesday that Needler's has been a successful grocery operation and he was not surprised at the consolidation. "I talked to Mike Needler a week or so ago and they continue to look forward to opening the store in Anderson," Broderick said.
