There are certainly many issues with our Byzantine health care system: availability, costs, access, etc. It’s pretty understandable that this has become THE topic for the 2020 Presidential race not just for Democrats but for Republicans as well. What is surprising, however, is that insulin has become the flash point for political outrage. As Lev Facher pointed out in STAT, insulin has become the symbol of corporate profiteering. Center for American Progress Well, I just bought a vial of human insulin for $24.88. I didn’t get this on the black market. I didn’t go to Canada. I didn’t have it mail ordered from overseas. I went to a Walmart in Groton, CT., about a 10 minute drive. I didn’t even need a prescription. I simply walked up to the counter and asked if I could buy insulin.
