The departure of COO Stephen Branstetter, who will continue to serve the company as an advisor through Nov. 18, comes amid reports that Smartsheet ( SMAR ) is close to an agreement to be sold to private equity firm Vista Equity and Blackstone ( BX ) for about $8 billion. Reuters reported on Monday that Vista Equity and Blackstone are discussing an offer of about $56 a share f or Smartsheet ( SMAR ). A deal could be signed in the coming weeks. Reuters first reported in July that Smartsheet ( SMAR ) was is in discussions with investment bankers after seeing acquisition interest from buyout firms. Investors appear to be concerned the Smartsheet COO was leaving if a deal was on the table, specifically with a PE firm. The PE firm would need a COO to help run the organization, so it would be a bit strange for the COO to leave, traders told Seeking Alpha on Thursday.
