Forecasts from the National Weather Service showed hotter than normal temperatures ahead for most of the U.S. east of the Rockies over the next 1-2 weeks, while California and the southwest U.S. cope with continued heat this week. "Above average temperatures are forecast for the entire country in the 10-20 day outlook, likely increasing demand for cooling," Schneider Electric's Victoria Dircksen said, according to Marketwatch Chicago, New York and Philadelphia are all likely facing 90+ degree days next week, Gary Cunningham of Tradition Energy noted, according to Dow Jones. Nymex ( NG1:COM ) natural gas for July delivery posted the largest percentage gain for a front-month contract since February 21, finishing to $3.129/MMBtu, its highest settlement since January 12.
