Royal Bank of Canada ramped up its predictions for rate cuts after the Governor said the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) at the Bank could become “a bit more activist” if the news about inflation remains good. Mr Bailey's comments in the Guardian sent the value of the pound plummeting against the dollar and the euro today, falling at its sharpest pace since December 2022. Money markets have priced in that rates will be cut in November from 5pc to 4.75pc, and traders bet there is a 65pc chance of another quarter of a percentage point reduction in December. However, the Royal Bank of Canada said the Bank of England would go further. Having previously predicted the Bank would hold rates steady at its final meeting of the year, it said it would continue cutting rates at a steady pace until borrowing costs reach 3.75pc in May.
