Willie Walsh, the head of airline trade body International Air Transport Association (Iata), said the jump in the engineering company's value was “baffling” and accused it of basic failings in engineering. Rolls-Royce's valuation has almost doubled this year , with shares jumping from 297p to 572p, despite engine issues that have led to widespread delays and cancellations for carriers. Mr Walsh said: “There's something not right here and we've had enough. Look at the Rolls-Royce share price, which baffles me, given the fact that they have significant problems with their engines. “[In the] year-to-date, their share price is up [by more than 90pc]. This is an increase in the share price of a company that is failing to do the basics of building an engine that is durable and robust.” Rolls declined to comment on the remarks.
