The unit includes all of Renault Group's EV-only factories, mostly in northern France, as well as R&D efforts focused on electric cars. It has about 10,000 employees. Recasens' appointment comes at a critical time for electric vehicles at Renault Group. In addition to an overall push to improve EV market share to more than 20 percent by 2027 to meet EU emissions standards, Ampere is developing two sub-€20,000 EVs, the next-generation Renault Twingo and a sibling model for Dacia, as it seeks to fend off low-cost competition from China. “With the launch of Twingo and the first software-defined vehicle in 2026, the next compact EV lineup in 2028, and our efforts to reduce costs by 40 percent, we have a roadmap that matches our ambition: to become the benchmark for our industry in Europe,“ Recasens said in a statement.” Ampere was originally split off from Renault Group in 2023 with the expectation of going public through an IPO or another mechanism.
