As inflation cools and the Fed lowers its benchmark rate, mortgage rates are expected to trend down in 2025. Mortgage rates are expected to go down as the Federal Reserve continues lowering the federal funds rate, and new labor market data appears to support the case for future Fed cuts. On Friday, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that the U.S. economy added 227,000 jobs in November, while the unemployment rate ticked up from 4.1% to 4.2%.
