Next year, mortgage rates should ease. But how much they drop depends in part on how many Fed cuts we get in 2025. Mortgage rates are holding steady as investors wait for the Federal Reserve's meeting to wrap up. Depending on the information coming out of this meeting, we could see rates fluctuate a bit later this week. Investors expect the Fed to announce a 25-basis-point cut to the federal funds rate on Wednesday. Since this move has already been priced in, it likely won't have much of an impact on mortgage rates. But the central bank will also be releasing updated economic projections after its meeting, which could cause some temporary volatility as markets react. The last time the Fed released economic projections, the median prediction was that officials would cut rates a few times in 2025.
