Mortgage rates are expected to go down next year as the Fed lowers the federal funds rate. Mortgage rates have gone up slightly in recent days. We could see them ease a bit following the Federal Reserve meeting on Wednesday, but it depends on the commentary and projections coming out of the meeting. Investors overwhelmingly expect the Fed to cut rates by 25 basis points this week, according to CME FedWatch . Since this cut has already been priced in, it likely won't impact mortgage rates too much.
