Unless the economic outlook changes, mortgage rates might not fall much more this year. In September, mortgage rates finally dropped below 6% for the first time since 2023. For hopeful homebuyers wondering when to jump into the market, now could be a good time to consider starting the process. Getting a mortgage is substantially more affordable now than it has been even in the last few months. In spite of this, many buyers are holding off since mortgage rates are expected to continue going down . But rates might not drop much more this year, so it's possible you'll need to wait until 2025 to get a better deal on a mortgage. Now that the Federal Reserve has started cutting its benchmark rate and future Fed cuts have been priced in, mortgage rates have been holding steady.
