Rates may ease a bit further in the coming months, but how much they drop depends on the economy. Mortgage rates have been dropping for several months now and are down substantially compared to where they were a year ago. But will rates drop much further? Rates trended down ahead of the Federal Reserve's decision to cut the federal funds rate by 50 basis points last week. Now that the Fed has cut rates, mortgage rates have generally held steady. The Fed is expected to lower rates at its next two meetings in November and December, so mortgage rates should ease further in the coming months. But how much rates go down depends on the economy.
