Estas medidas tienen lugar en medio de las tensiones entre Caracas y Washington, que busca asfixiar económicamente al gobierno del presidente venezolano, Nicolás Maduro. La petrolera francesa Maurel & Prom confirmó el lunes que Estados Unidos revocó su licencia. Maurel & Prom "recibió una notificación" del "departamento del Tesoro de Estados Unidos, fechada el 28 de marzo de 2025", diciendo que "la licencia específica acordada en mayo de 2024 para sus actividades en Venezuela fue revocada", informó la compañía en un comunicado. El grupo francés aclaró que obtuvo "una licencia de transición" hasta el 27 de mayo para "la conclusión de las operaciones cubiertas por la licencia revocada".
