Dutch front-month futures, Europe's gas benchmark, recently traded at €39.67/MWh after the front-month contract settled lower on Monday for the first time in a week. Russia's Gazprom said it is still pumping gas to Ukraine through Sudzha, just over the border from Ukraine, even as it is not clear which side is in control of the Russian town through which Russia pumps gas from Western Siberia through Ukraine and on to Slovakia and other European Union countries. Europe is heading into the heating season with high inventories, and Austrian energy firm OMV ( OTCPK:OMVJF ) has said it could fulfill its natural gas supply obligations in any supply scenario. Hungary gets ~1B cm/year of Russian gas through a pipeline from Austria, and a spokesperson at the Hungarian pipeline operator said gas is still flowing. "Now that Russia and Ukraine have said they want to continue the gas flows, some of the risk premium is easing," Rabobank energy strategist Florence Schmit said, according to
