The percentage of positive COVID-19 tests dropped from 17.8% the week of Aug. 10 to 14.9% the week of Sept. 7, . Walgreens's showed a similar trend. Summer travel for vacations and gatherings typically drives a large wave of COVID-19 cases, said Emily Smith, an infectious diseases and epidemiology expert at GW Milken Institute of Public Health.
