Starting today, customers of National Fuel Gas will pay about $5 more a month for natural gas. National Fuel has submitted to the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) its quarterly adjustment to gas supply charges. Effective today, the bill will go from $74.84 to $80.06 a month — an increase of $5.22 — for the typical residential customer using 99,300 cubic feet of gas annually. The increase primarily is due to higher market prices for natural gas, increasing the cost of natural gas supplies that National Fuel purchases for its customers, according to the company. PUC regulations permit natural gas utilities to update gas supply charges on a quarterly basis to reflect changes in the market price of natural gas. The PUC regulations require gas supply costs be passed along to customers on a dollar-for-dollar basis — up or down — with no additional markup.
