developed a new additive manufacturing repair process for critical geared turbofan engine components that will reduce process time by more than 60%. The company said it is working to industrialize the repair, which will then be scaled and applied throughout the global GTF maintenance, repair and overhaul network. Pratt & Whitney is currently navigating an issue with the GTF engines and is conducting an inspection drive for potentially flawed components, which has led to the grounding of hundreds of planes in recent months.
