Most Read from Bloomberg The benchmark Kospi Index fell as much as 2.3% at the open, following two straight sessions of losses brought on by uncertainties over imminent US tariff announcements. Technology and transport stocks were leading the losses Monday in early trading. Starting Monday, hedge funds and other investors will be allowed to sell borrowed shares for all of the roughly 2,800 listed companies. The ban on short selling, which had been in place November 2023, had been seen as one of the barriers in Korea's bid for a coveted upgrade to the developed market status from index operator MSCI Inc. Kospi is Asia's second-best performer among major Asian equity gauges this year. That hasn't been enough to lure back global investors, who have largely sat out the rally so far.
