Three higher education institutions have recently reported historic gifts from their alumni or trustees totaling $73 million. The three institutions are Drake University (Des Moines, Iowa), Hofstra University (Hempstead, New York) and Colby College (Waterville, Maine). Drake University from one of its alums and trustees, Greg Johansen and his wife, Cie Johansen. Once it's fully donated, the gift will represent the largest single-donor gift in the university's history. The donation will be used to fund several initiatives, including capital improvements, scholarships and athletics. In recognition of the commitment, the university will rename Morehouse Hall, whose renovation will be supported by the gift, the Johansen Student Center. It will house the university's first intercultural center, student organizations, a plaza and other spaces for the community.
