Based on its stock performance last week, Amazon doesn't look like a winner from President Donald Trump's tariffs. But thanks to several levers it can pull in response : hike the prices consumers pay, decrease the already-low margins for its suppliers or simply absorb the increase itself. Amazon has a strong balance sheet, and had a 9% profit margin in 2024. And another silver lining for the company: Trump closed the “de minimis” trade loophole, which is expected to deal a bigger blow to foreign competitors Shein and Temu. FIRST UP The wide-ranging tariffs continued Friday, and investors digested China's retaliatory measures. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 5.5%, and the S&P 500 and tech-heavy Nasdaq were down about 6% apiece. All three indexes are in correction territory , and the Nasdaq entered a bear market, trading more than 20% below its December all-time high.
