President Trump's latest tariffs have boosted recession outlooks. Investors are bolstering bets that the Federal Reserve will have to slash interest rates this year as President Donald Trump's trade war amplifies growth fears. Asset prices tanked on Thursday after the White House delivered a range of higher-than-expected tariffs on global trading partners, surprising analysts and triggering warnings about a deep and widespread downturn. JPMorgan's chief US economist, Michael Feroli, said that the inflationary hit from Wednesday's announcement could weigh on US wallets, shrinking consumer spending in the next few quarters. "This impact alone could take the economy perilously close to slipping into recession." Traders are now more convinced that Fed officials will be forced to unwind high interest rates, a move done to revive economic activity.
