Jabil Inc. JBL recently announced a significant expansion of the production capabilities of its silicon photonics-based products in Ottawa, Canada, to support the escalating demands from hyperscalers and cloud and AI data centers. The company plans to introduce the additional capabilities at the end of fiscal 2024, focusing on advanced photonics packaging for new product introductions (NPIs). The NPI line will likely incorporate cutting-edge technologies to facilitate faster transitions from proof of concept to mass production. Features such as fluxless flip-chip, fiber attachment, precise die bonding and wire bonding are set to enhance the packaging of silicon photonics chips, particularly in high-speed connectivity applications such as co-packaged optics and high-speed on-board connections.
