Iberdrola, ScottishPower's Spanish parent company, on Friday confirmed plans to double its projected investment in Britain by adding an additional £12bn. Keith Anderson, the ScottishPower chief executive, who will meet Sir Keir Starmer in Edinburgh on Friday, said the decision was motivated by the Government's approach to net zero projects. The energy secretary's tough approach to planning is “what we want to see as an investor”, he said. It follows Mr Miliband's decision to wave through some of Britain's largest-ever solar farms in Lincolnshire, Suffolk and Cambridgeshire, overruling local opposition. The decision sparked outcry from regional campaigners and even a legal challenge from two councils, which was later withdrawn. Mr Anderson said it “sends a clear message” to ScottishPower's parent company about the UK's green prospects, alongside wider plans to decarbonise the power grid. He added: “That gives us a lot of confidence, pushing through those planning decisions.
