La operación, calificada de "sin precedentes", arrancó en 2022 a raíz de una estafa y por sumas muy grandes a un exempresario francés, precisó la fuente en un comunicado. La investigación terminó sacando a la superficie una red "compleja y especialmente organizada", que involucra a franco-israelíes y cuyo "centro" se encontraba en Tel Aviv. El sistema de lavado de dinero operaba a través de numerosas empresas ficticias en Europa (Portugal, Hungría, Croacia, Alemania, Italia) y también en Turquía, Reino Unido y Gibraltar. Los estafadores utilizaban "mulas bancarias" y herramientas digitales avanzadas para ocultar sus actividades y transferir millones de euros, señalaron los investigadores.
