The Bank of England held its interest rate at 4.5% last month after warning that global economic uncertainty has "intensified". This is the lowest level for rates in more than 18 months, following a reduction from 4.75% in February — the third such cut since August 2024. Financial markets and economists predict that the Bank of England will reduce borrowing costs more than expected this year to avoid a downturn. The primary inflation measure, the Consumer Price Index (CPI), stood at 2.8% in the 12 months to February 2025, a slight decrease from the previous month. While this marks a significant drop from the peak of 11.1% seen in October 2022, it remains well above the Bank of England's target of 2%.
