Japanese automaker Nissan Motor said Tuesday it is replacing CEO Makoto Uchida with Chief Planning Officer Ivan Espinosa, a month after its merger plan with rival Honda Motor collapsed. Nissan said Espinosa will take the helm on April 1. Nissan has been struggling with declining sales in the U.S., China, and Japan. Japanese automaker Nissan Motor said Tuesday it is replacing CEO Makoto Uchida with Chief Planning Officer Ivan Espinosa, a month after its merger plan with rival Honda ( HMC collapsed Nissan said Espinosa will take the helm on April 1. Nissan said it was “introducing a significantly renewed leadership line-up to achieve the company's short- and mid-term objectives while positioning it for long-term growth.” Nissan and Honda scrapped the merger they announced in December , amid reports that Honda unexpectedly proposed a new structure that would have made Nissan a fully owned subsidiary.
