“Our improved opinion reflects fewer industry headwinds and growing confidence in HBAN's expansion plans,” analyst Alexander Yokum said in a note. Huntington earlier this month announced plans to expand into North Carolina and South Carolina by adding 55 retail branches over the next five years. “We applaud HBAN's decision to expand in the Carolinas, and we expect the bank to continue outperforming its peers from a loan growth perspective,” Yokum said, adding that the lender “has reduced its risk over the past year (commercial real estate loan balance down 9%) and credit quality is outperforming pre-pandemic levels.” According to Yokum, Huntington's shares had been pressured since Silicon Valley Bank's failure and by big unrealized losses in its securities holdings. CFRA said it raised its price target on Huntington by $2 to $17, which is 11.4 times its 2025 earnings per share outlook. It maintained its 2024 EPS outlook at $1.25 and lifted its 2025 EPS view by $0.06 to $1.49.
