The S&P 500 ( ^GSPC ) swung to a drop of more than 2% from a rise of 1%, having erased losses of as much as 3.6%. Meanwhile, the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite ( ^IXIC ) moved between steep losses and gains to drop 2%. The Dow Jones Industrial Average ( ^DJI ) also fell about 1,000 points after briefly turning positive. The seesaw in stock prices came after National Economic Council director Kevin Hassett said in an interview with Fox News that he has seen some countries approach the administration with deals that are "great". Over the weekend Trump signaled that he won't change up his trade policy to relieve markets. Responding to a reporter's question on Sunday, he said: "Sometimes you have to take medicine to fix something."
