The fish smell comes from the plastic and heat-resistant chemicals used in outlets, circuit breakers and wiring insulation overheating. If you ever smell that in your home or apartment, you have a problem, and the first thing you'll want to do is flip your breakers (if they haven't tripped already) and call the fire department. The good news in my case was that the damage was limited to the outlet, which was visibly scorched, but the uninterruptible power supply plug melted completely. You never want this to happen, but you especially don't want it to happen with an expensive gaming PC. Unfortunately, this may become an increasingly common problem as gaming power demands increase while housing stock remains outdated in terms of wiring and electrical panels. Here's what happened.
