This was confirmed Sunday by a statement from University Medical Center hospital in Lubbock, which said, "a school-aged child who was recently diagnosed with measles has passed away." According to UMC, the child was hospitalized due to complications from measles and was not vaccinated. "This unfortunate event underscores the importance of vaccination," reads a statement from UMC. "Measles is a highly contagious disease that can lead to serious complications, particularly for those who are unvaccinated."
