The data center, which would represent a $5 billion investment, would create 300-500 jobs and transform the local economy. The project would also include a separate 754-MW gas-fired plant in southern Louisiana and transmission lines. The data center operator has committed to purchasing 1,500 MW of solar and/or solar and storage resources and contributing to the cost of carbon capture and storage at an existing power plant. Entergy Louisiana has asked the Louisiana Public Service Commission to approve the project within 10 months, with costs for upgraded infrastructure to be spread across Entergy's electricity customers in Louisiana.
