One of the REITs previously led by late real estate legend Sam Zell is headed toward liquidation. Equity Commonwealth (NYSE: EQC ) has a market cap of around $2 billion and four properties left in its portfolio. Some of its larger investors have pressured the company to stop pursuing an acquisition and just head toward a sale. Equity Commonwealth last paid a special dividend of $4.25 in 2023. Equity Commonwealth's question now is timing. CEO David Helfand said three of the four remaining properties, one in Washington, D.C., and two in Austin, TX, are being marketed for sale. The last property, which is in Denver, will be listed in September.
