U.S. stocks whipsawed by uncertain stimulus timing U.S. stocks swung between gains and losses in another wild session on Wall Street, as investors speculated on the timing and size of stimulus promised by President Donald Trump to combat the coronavirus’s economic impact. The S&P 500’s wiped out a gain that reached 3.5 per cent, then rebounded one per cent higher as Trump joined a briefing with insurance industry representatives at the White House. The president said last night he’d deliver “major” moves to combat the virus fallout some time Tuesday. A four per cent rally in European stocks got zapped. Haven assets from Treasuries to the yen pared losses. Brent crude futures advanced after Monday’s crash. Among the major moves: Volatility continued to grip global financial markets rattled by the virus and an all-out oil price war.
