The North Carolina Utilities Commission approved the request for Duke Energy Progress to lower residential utility rates by 4.5%, which started December 1, Duke Energy said in a press release. According to Duke Energy, the North Carolina Utilities Commission reviews the fuel costs used to generate electricity for customers every year. “The fuel cost, which is the cost we incur to buy the fuel to generate the power that you use, is what we call a pass-through cost. We don't make a profit on that, we just bill you what it costs to fuel you, and we've seen a decrease in some of those fuel costs,” Jeff Brooks with Duke Energy said. In their press release, Duke Energy projects that customers who use 1,000 kilowatt-hours per month will see an overall decrease of $7.34, decreasing the monthly bill from $161.97 to $154.63. The decrease could save a customer about $235 per year. PREVIOUSLY: Duke Energy announces rate increase in September, drop in January While it's good news, you s Show less Read more
