According to Nielsen, on Election Night 2024 the audience from 18 cable and broadcast networks averaged 42.3 million viewers in prime time . The average audience was -25% below Election Night 2020 which averaged 56.9 million. The 2024 audience fall-off was even sharper compared to election night 2016 which dropped by -41% (71.4 million viewers). Furthermore, Nielsen reports only 22.6% of TV households (28.45 million) watched election news coverage via television, the lowest household percent since at least 1960.
