Diageo “to pause” Crown Royal distillery construction in Canada [Yahoo! Finance]

In a statement sent to Just Drinks , a company spokesperson said it "decided to pause the development of our facility in Lambton County's St. Clair Township" on the basis of "the dynamic nature of our broader business and our emphasis on productivity". The Tanqueray gin producer would not be drawn on the finer details of why it has opted to put the plans on hold, other than to say Diageo would "be revisiting plans and a timeline at a later date, as part of our regular review of investments and priorities across our supply chain footprint”. The London-headquartered company has so far injected C$245m ($175.6m) into the 400-acre site in Ontario. It was expected to include a blending room, warehousing and a distillery, using renewable electricity. The plant would be Crown Royal's first carbon-neutral facility.
