Dillard's shares jump after the retailer reports an unexpected profit Dillard's Inc. DDS, +23.40% stock jumped 7.7% in Thursday premarket trading after the department store retailer reported a third-quarter profit rather than the loss that the Street was expecting. Net income totaled $5.5 million, or 22 cents per share, down from $7.4 million, or 27 cents per share last year. Revenue totaled $1.42 billion, down from $1.46 billion last year. The FactSet consensus was for a loss of 29 cents and sales of $1.41 billion. Same-store sales were flat for the quarter compared with a 2% decline FactSet forecast. Dillard's says it will close its 100,000 square foot location at the Fiesta Mall Clearance Center in Mesa, Ariz. in January 2020, and open a new location at the Columbia Mall in Columbia, Mo. Dillard's stock has gained 12.4% for the year to date but is down 8.1% for the past year. The S&P 500 index SPX, -0.09% is up 14.5% for the last 12 months.
