Spirit Airlines, which emerged from bankruptcy court protection last month, has been named the best U.S. airline, a new study says. Spirit was cited as the best airline overall, the most affordable airline and the safest airline, according to the study by personal-finance company WalletHub . The nine largest U.S. airlines and two regional carriers were compared using 14 metrics, including flight cancellation and delay rates, baggage mishaps, in-flight comfort and safety related incidents and accidents. On March 12, Spirit announced that it had emerged from its Chapter 11 bankruptcy court restructuring, having reduced its debt by about $795 million. The airline achieved the reduction through a debt-to-equity swap and also received a $350 million equity investment from existing investors to assist future initiatives.
