Here are my top 10 rules and practices for making dinner and without making a mess. 1. Use a garbage bowl I learned this one years ago from Food Network host Rachael Ray, and it's as useful today as it was then. Tossing out scraps as you go saves you trips to the garbage or from having to round them up later. You can bring a compost bin or garbage can closer to the action or designate a large bowl to place on the counter to use as a temporary bin for onion skins and celery ends.
