Ciena's stock surges after profit and revenue rise, beat expectations Shares of Ciena Corp. CIEN, +1.15% shot up 8.6% in premarket trading Thursday, after the optical networking company reported fiscal third-quarter profit and revenue that rose above expectations, and provided an upbeat full-year outlook. Net income for the quarter to July 31 rose to $86.7 million, or 55 cents a share, from $50.8 million, or 34 cents a share, in the year-ago period. Excluding non-recurring items, adjusted EPS was 71 cents, above the FactSet consensus of 58 cents. Total revenue increased 17.3% to $960.6 million, beating the FactSet consensus of $932.5 million, as total networking platforms revenue grew 17.5% to $796.1 million to top expectations of $753.2 million.
