Obsessed with volume, Balenciaga's work was couture for the mondaine, and seems well placed to remain exactly that, almost thirty years since the world-famous maison was revived from (literal) fashion purgatory by luxury giant Kering. Though Cristóbal himself was never a member of the Chambre Syndicale de la haute couture Parisienne , high fashion's organizing body. He refused to join, didn't like the press very much, and didn't really pay attention to Paris fashion's (strict) schedule if he didn't want to. Sometimes for years on end.
